For our catechism, we are using An Outline of the Faith from the 1979 Book of Common Prayer as our basic framework. It offers a clear, question-and-answer introduction to the Christian story: creation, covenant, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, Scripture, the Church, prayer, Baptism, Eucharist, and the Christian hope while remaining intentionally roomy.
The Prayer Book itself describes the catechism not as a complete statement of everything Christians believe, but as a “point of departure for the teacher,” giving us a sturdy center without closing down conversation, wonder, or deeper exploration. That makes it especially fitting for All Souls and our ecumenical life together. The 1979 Prayer Book emerged from a remarkable period of ecumenical and liturgical renewal, when Christians across traditions were returning together to Scripture, the early Church, Baptism, Eucharist, and the shared shape of Christian life.
