Beauty, Truth & Goodness
From its inception, our church community has celebrated Beauty, Truth and Goodness—a way of paying attention to God by noticing what is beautiful, true and good in the world and sharing it with others during the Sunday liturgy.
We invite you to offer anything beautiful, true or good that you have encountered or created, and share it with us on a Sunday morning. This can be something that has pierced your heart, made you laugh, cry, hope, repent, marvel, gasp or ponder. We want to know why it moved you. Our suspicion is that it will move many of us too, but perhaps, even more than that, we will learn more about who you are and how God is moving in you.
We seek to engage the senses with Beauty, Truth and Goodness. Every artful medium that connects with our culture and helps us experience God’s pleasure behind all that is good and beautiful in the world is embraced.
Some examples are visual art, photography, pottery, poetry, a song, short story, painting, a slide presentation of a trip or a place, an essay, woodworking, a spiritual practice, or sculpture. The directions are almost endless.
Artful
It is tempting to be religious consumers only, but sharing Beauty, Truth and Goodness collectively invites us to give our full selves—heart, soul and mind—to God and each other.
Participatory
When we speak of things that are beautiful, true, or good, we do not mean things that are necessarily neat or clean. There are all kinds of beauty: some are sparkly and some are brutal. There are all kinds of truth: some fill us with joy and some silence us and fill us with sorrow. There are all kinds of goodness: everything that emerges from an honest place and holds up hope, no matter how feeble, is deeply good.
